Apprenticeships in the care sector

Thinking about starting as an apprentice in the care sector? We’ve invested heavily in our approved apprenticeship programme – to support you and help you build a rewarding career. You can choose between a Diploma in Health & Social Care (Level 2–5*) or a Diploma in Health*. From there you can go further – to train as a nurse or go into care management.

* Scotland the equivalent qualification would be the SVQ 2, 3 and 4 Social Services and Healthcare

Your career path in detail

Trainee

  • Short programme of development

  • Includes 2–4 weeks of work placement

  • Ideal if you’re not yet ready to start an apprenticeship

  • Gives you a taste of working as a carer

We also offer the opportunity of work experience, which is suitable for school pupils. This gives a taste of working life in a social care environment.

Level 2 Apprentice

Healthcare Support Worker

  • Apply and start in your chosen role  

  • No experience needed for this level

  • Includes a full induction to prepare you

  • Length: 12–18 months

Level 3 Apprentice

Senior Healthcare Support Worker

  • Apply once you complete Level 2

  • Train to carry out elements of clinical work

  • Support our nurses and lead a team of carers

  • Length: 18 months

Higher Apprentice

Assistant Practitioner

  • Apply once you complete Level 3

  • Develop your clinical and care skills further

  • You are required to gain this level before entering nurse training

  • Length: 2 years

What's next?

  • Train to become a qualified nurse  

  • Or do our Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Leadership and Management, progressing into care home management

  • Or continue your career as a carer
