Little things make a big difference
When Wakako takes Val to have her hair done, it helps Val remember her younger days. Wakako, 37, joined us as a care assistant two years ago. Now she is looking forward to the opportunity to fast-track to qualified care practitioner.
Variety and freedom
Wakako loves the variety of the work, the training and the career prospects at Care UK. There are plenty of challenges in her role, but she feels she gets a lot of freedom to do her job. So she can use her initiative, build close relationships with residents like Val and make a real difference to their well-being. She feels empowered to carry out her role to the best of her ability.
A supportive, team environment
Wakako is part of a friendly, close-knit team at her care home. She works alongside other carers, nurses, chefs and the home manager – there’s a real family feel. Everyone pulls together to get things done, making sure that residents’ needs always come first. When she started as a care assistant, senior colleagues gave her lots of support, showing her how things work and generally being there when she needed them.
Looking to her future
Helping our team members progress in their careers is really important to us. We firmly believe that when our people are fulfilled in their roles, they do a much better job. That’s why we support carers like Wakako with training and courses, to progress in their careers. Like many of our carers and nurses, Wakako is naturally compassionate. We think our approach brings out the best in her.
