Is Care UK right for me?

What's it like to work as a carer?

Working as a carer is very rewarding. You really do make a positive difference to the lives of vulnerable people. It can be challenging at times, but if you’re naturally caring and hard working, you should do very well. And day to day, there’s lots of variety. To get a picture of what it’s like, why not read our carer stories in Fulfilling Lives.

What's it like working with older people?

In a nutshell, very fulfilling. You will get the opportunity to get to know our residents, all of whom have led interesting, varied lives. You join in fun activities with them – and have a laugh. There’s a lot more to it than just feeding and bathing residents – you soon learn to see the person inside.

What sort of training will I get?

As an apprentice, you’ll receive approved training in Health and Social Care. We’ve recently set up our own Learning Academy, where our internal team will deliver high quality innovative training. This includes face-to-face, on-the-job and e-learning modules. They will provide coaching, support and ongoing assessment of your skills throughout the programme. As an apprentice, you’ll also be supported by an experienced mentor.

Where will my career go?

It’s really up to you how far and where you go. With Care UK, there’s a lot of flexibility and opportunity. And if you show commitment, we’ll help you reach your potential. Take a look at possible career paths for care apprentices.
